Phrases Used in Presenting a Chart and
Graphic
Introduction Phrases
• Here we can see a pie chart _____ showing _______
• Here we can see a pie chart _____ illustrating ______
• Here we can see a pie chart _____ comparing ______
• Looking at the table/chart/graph, it can be seen that…..
Presenting Trend Phrases
If the line is going up:
- To increase dramatically.
- To rise sharply.
- A considerable growth.
- Etc.
If the line is going down:
- To decline sharply.
- To show a downward trend.
- To hit the lowest point.
- And so on.
The other phrases:
- to reach a peak/high
- at its peak
- all-time peak
- to rise towards its peak
- past its peak
Types of Chart and Graph
Pie Chart
Pie charts are designed to visualize how a whole is
divided into various parts. Each segment of the pie is a
particular category within the total data is set

Bar Chart
A bar chart is a graphical representation
of data (usually grouped) as vertical or
horizontal rectangular bars, where the lengths
of the bars are proportional to the measure of
the data.

Line Graph
A Line Graph represents how data has
changed over time. This type of chart is
especially useful when you want to
demonstrate trends or numbers that are
connected
