DEFINITION
• The term "timekeeping" refers to the process of
keeping track of an employee's working hours.
Businesses use timekeeping to measure staff
productivity, manage attendance, and determine
payroll. (Da.io, 2022)
• Timekeeping is the practice of tracking employee
work hours to make sure wage compensations are
correct and fair.
• Generally, a timekeeper will review data regarding
when employees clocked in and out for work, as
well as when they took their rest and meal breaks.
This practice is highly important for making sure
employers are not overpaying employees for hours
they did not work.

other employees is called
timekeeper.
TIMEKEEPING Mechanical
Under this method, it is used to save
time and ensure greater accuracy. The
machines record the exact time of the
arrival and departure of employees.
Thus, they avoid possible disputes and
difference of opinions between
employees and time keeping officers.
Mechanical methods are used in
medium and large sized industries as
small sized concerns cannot afford to
invest more capital on such equipment.6
