• Be able to discuss about the importance of studying the concept of

Culture, Society, Politics as
Conceptual Tools
• Culture, Society and Politics are concepts. They cannot be seen or touched but they
can influence the way we see and experience our individual as social beings.

• These concepts are initially invented as icons to capture phenomena and in the
process to assist people to describe social experiences in relation to the phenomena
concerned.
• What is interesting about this concept is that they allow us to form other concepts or
relate concepts to each other or even destruct old ones and replace them with
something new.

What is Culture?
• The sum of an individuals way of life raging
from the food he or she eats , the clothes he or
she wears and the house where he or she lives.

• It also refers to the set patterns of human


activity within community or social group.

Anthropology-is the study of the origin and


development of human societies and cultures.
Culture is the learned behavior of people, including
their languages, belief systems, social structures,
institutions, and material goods.

What is Society?
• It generally defines as an organized group or
groups of interdependent people who share a
common territory, language and culture.

• It also refers to a large group of people who


live together in an organized way, making
decisions about how to do things and sharing
the work that needs to be done.

Sociology is the study of social life, social change,


and the social causes and consequences of human
behavior. Sociologists investigate the structure of
groups, organizations, and societies and how people
interact within these contexts.

What is Politics?
• Politics refers to the activity of government
and those involved in the process of
governing.
• It also involves all the actions of
government and all the people who work for,
serve, or challenge it.

Political Science is the study of politics and power


from domestic, international, and comparative
perspectives. It entails understanding political
ideas, ideologies, institutions, policies, processes,
and behavior, as well as groups, classes,
government, diplomacy, law, strategy, and war.

Significance of Studying Culture, Society and
Politics
• Culture study, in general, allows us to understand how the different
cultures came about. It also gives an overview of how peoples'
behaviors vary from one place to another. With this, we can never
judge or delegate which one is inferior or superior to which.

• Through their study of Society and Culture, students develop the


ability to influence their own futures, by developing skills, values and
understandings that enable effective participation in contemporary
society.

Significance of Studying Culture, Society and
Politics
• Studying political science grounds students in the importance of
political participation and prepares them to take part in the
political life of their communities and the nation

• It provides a deeper understanding of how culture, human agency,


society, and politics work; and engage students in the examination
of the country's current human development goals.
