Wright Brothers, Wilbur and Orville, were two American inventors, regarded in the United States and elsewhere as the pioneers of aviation. The Wright Brothers, Wilbur and Orville, were two of the seven children of the Bishop of the Church of the United Brethred, Milton Wright and Susan Catherine Koerner. As children, the brothers showed their skills by building a toy "helicopter" based on a replica of Frenchman Alp house Pénand's pioneering invention, which sparked their interest in flying. In 1884, the family moved to Dayton, Ohio, where Orville set up a printing office, having designed and built his own printing press, with the help of his brother Wilbur. The brothers then began publishing the weekly newspaper, West Side News. From April 1890, they began publishing The Evening daily, but publication only lasted four months. In 1892, the Wright brothers opened a bicycle sales shop and repair shop. In 1896 they began manufacturing bicycles under their own brand the Wright Cycle Company. As early as 1890, the Wright brothers had been researching glider flights by German Otto Lilienthal, one of the pioneers of aviation Research and experiments into building a powered plane took shape in 1900, when the brothers began building the first glider that was capable of carrying a man. The second glider was similar to the first, but had a larger wingspan. In 1902, they built the third glider with a rear rudder that served to control yaw. On 17 April 1903, the brothers made the first flight of the Wright glider, the first powered plane, heavier than air, with controlled flight and a pilot on board. The plane's engine was built by Charlie Taylor, a mechanic who worked for the brothers. Afraid that someone would copy their invention, the brothers did not make the feat public. In 1909, the Wright brothers were awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor after they returned from a tour of Europe. In 1911, Orville tested a new glider in which the pilot was seated rather than lying down as in earlier models. Orville glided over Kill Devil Hills for 9 minutes 45 seconds, breaking his previous record of 1 minute 12 seconds set in 1903
