Thermodynamics relations

 From first law of thermodynamics for closed

system.

dU=Q-W
But Q = TdS
And W =PdV
Then
dU = TdS – PdV
U=f(S,V)
Thermodynamics relations
 From first law of thermodynamics for open system.

H=U+PV

Then dH=dU+PdV+VdP
But dU = TdS – PdV
Then
dH = TdS + VdP H=f(S,P)

Gibbs free energy

G=H-TS

Then dG=dH-TdS-SdT
But dH = TdS + VdP
dG = VdP -SdT
G=f(P,T)
Thermodynamics relations
 Helmholtz free energy (A)

A=U-TS
Then dA=dU-TdS-SdT
But dU = TdS – PdV
Then

dA = -PdV -SdT
A=f(V,T)
