CURIOSITY AND

POWERFUL LEARNING
WHAT IS CURIOSITY AND
POWERFUL LEARNING?
Lifting students is a collaborative enterprise. It relies on students,
teachers and school leaders working together. The way we
collaborate involved common practices, shared language and
beliefs, mutually reinforced values and expectations, jointly
recognised accountability and responsibility.

Lifting student learning does not happen on its own, it can not
happen if we continue to do what we have always done and wait
for change to occur.
WHY CURIOSITY?
Curiosity is represented by the learning skills and the spirit of
inquiry we want all our student to acquire.

Curiosity is explicit in the classroom strategies we use to develop,

refine, and inspire our students’ learning skills.
CURIOSITY AND POWERFUL
LEARNING
Curiosity and Powerful Learning is a program that outlines a
series of easy to follow steps that we can adapt and use in our
context at a pace that suits us.
It unlocks the latest educational research through practical steps,
allowing us to recognise the expertise of our staff and improving
consistency across the school in teaching and learning.
LEADERSHIP TEAM
This program is a two year commitment that will see THS develop a
Leadership Team to improve the educational outcomes of our students.

Schools in the Curiosity and Powerful Learning Program will develop:

• a clear and practical focus on school improvement
• a practical understanding of the structures to improve practice by
working collaboratively within the school
• collaborative networks between schools
• processes and content for professional learning within and between
schools.
WHERE ARE WE GOING?
• Improved academic results
• Consistent, high expectations within teaching practices
• Utilising a common language in regards to learning
• Formalised collaboration of teachers to improve practice.
• CPL to become part of THS’ culture (just the way things are done)
• Improve student well-being
HOW DO WE GET THERE?
• Peer Mentors, lesson observations (triad system)
• Set period a fortnight for Professional Learning (CPL)
• Build upon our well-being focus
• Cross curriculum learning experiences
Our aim is to ‘tighten’ some of the fantastic things we already do to
continue to see improved results for our students, and enhance our
professional development.
