About Rome
 Rome is one of the most successful
imperial powers in history.
 Rome grew from the small town on the
Tiber river in the central Italy.
 The vast included most of Europe,
northern Africa, western Asia and
Mediterranean islands.
 Rome was founded in 753 BC by twin
brothers, Romulus and Remus.
 They use Latin as their language.
Colosseum’s History

 Flavian Amphitheatre, Colosseum was given


to a roman people by the Flavian Dynasty.

 Vespasian, who ruled from 69-79 AD,


began construction of the Colosseum and
hold opening ceremonies in 80 AD by his
son, Titus.

 The Colosseum could hold more than


 When the Colosseum first opened, the
50,000 spectators at its maximum
capacity. emperor Titus celebrated with a hundred
days of gladiatorial games that men who
fight to the death for the enjoyment of
others. It also hosted public executions.
 After the fall of the Western Roman Empire,
the colosseum was destroyed by earthquakes
during the fifth century.

 By the 20th century, nearly two-thirds of the


original building had been destroyed. So, a
restoration project began in the 1990s to repair
the Colosseum.

 Today it is one of modern-day Rome’s most


popular tourist attractions, hosting millions of
visitors a year.

 Now, it is in Italy.
It is incredible because only one third
of the original building survives but it
give a flavor of how dramatic and
theatrical of Rome and true marvel of
architectural innovation.
If you visit colosseum, start with
underground corridors because it’s a
place where a gladiator prepare
himself to face the wild beasts. With a
little imagination and the support of a
guide will not be difficult to go back
that time.
