THE DIVINE COMEDY

• The Divine Comedy, written by the Florentine Dante Alighieri between approximately
1304 and 1321, is an epic poem, a literary genre that consists of the narration in verse of
the exploits of the heroes. Such feats constitute a model of virtue, whether true or
fictitious. This text represents a compendium of medieval culture and knowledge, both

THE EXORCIST

• We continue with great novels that were later made into movies. Steven Spielberg (one of the winners of the
2023 Oscars) shot one of his first films based on this ‘thriller’ by Peter Benchley, which in 1974 was one of
the best-selling books in the world. Amity is a small town on the coast that lives mainly from tourism. One
night, shortly before the start of the summer season, the remains of a woman appear on the beach; she
apparently has been eaten by a shark. The police, the press and the merchants hide the news so that it does
not scare away the visitors.

ANIMAL GRAVEYARD

• One of Stephen King’s great novels, more categorized in the suspense genre than in the horror genre, and which
has also been made into a film with great success under the direction of Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer.
King tells us the strange story of Church, the cat who was killed by a car, who was buried beyond the animal
cemetery, but who surprisingly had reappeared with crueler and more wicked eyes than before.
