QUALITY ASSURANCE

Quality Assurance is the process of maintaining a

desired degree of quality in a service or product,
particularly through paying attention to each stage of
the delivery process.
It involves adherence to minimum standards in
relation to course content, support services, program
administration and institutional governance.

THE COMPONENTS OF A QUALITY

ASSURANCE
 The strategic (dealing with the quality policy,
objectives and management and usually
produced as the Quality Manual);
 The tactical (dealing with general practices
such as training, facilities, operation of QA);
and
 The operational level [dealing with the
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
worksheets and other aspects of day to day
operations].

TYPES OF QUALITY ASSURANCE IN

NBTE
 ACCREDITATION: This is the assessment to
know if the approved programme’s standard is
sustained and improved upon.
 RESOURCES INSPECTION: This is assessment
to know if the minimum requirement is met for a
programme to commence.
 CARRYING CAPACITY: This is the assessment
to know if a programme’s number of stream(s)
could be increased to accommodate more
streams.

TYPES OF QUALITY ASSURANCE IN

NBTE
 ACCREDITATION VERIFICATION: This is the
assessment to know if Programme(s) granted Interim
Accreditation has remedied the deficiencies for full
Accreditation.
 RESOURCES INSPECTION VERIFICATION: This is
the assessment to know if programme(s) denied
approval has remedied the deficiencies for the
Programme to commence.
 REVALIDATION: This assessment occurs when there
is change of site e.g relocation from temporary site to
the permanent site.

TECHNOLOGY-DEPENDENCY
Materials are delivered using computer
applications. For some people just to learn
how to use those applications might take a
long period of time. There are also other
factors such as a poor Internet
connection, power supply and machine
malfunction, which may make the process
of digitalization frustrating and time
consuming.

COMPATIBILITY ISSUES

As there are many systems available,

sometimes the materials prepared by using
one system may not be compatible with
another. For example mobile devices such as
iPads block the flash videos from being
played in their browsers.

ACCESSIBILITY ISSUES

Access to websites may not be free in all

places as some countries impose restrictions
on the number of websites that can be
accessed.

RELIABILITY OF THE CONTENT

The content available on the Internet
might not always be reliable. There
are people who mislead the users and
feed wrong information. So the user
must be careful while searching for
the information and check the
reliability of the content.

CONCLUSION
It is should be noted therefore, that
there are numerous benefits and
challenges of Technology enabled
Quality Assurance but because of the
nature of this paper few are
mentioned. However, the benefits
surpass the challenges if well
implemented.
