What is Food Safety ?
• Food Safety is a scientific methodology, routine and or
practice to reduce food pathogens and prevent
foodborne illnesses
• Food Safety entails to include all processes involving
food such as food handling, preparation, processing,
storage and distribution.
Food Safety Act 2013 (Republic Act No.
10611)
• The Food Safety Act of 2013 (Republic Act No. 10611) is a
Philippine law that aims to strengthen the food safety
regulatory system in the country to protect consumer health
and facilitate market access of local foods and food products.
Why is Food Safety important to Visually
Impaired Individuals ?
• According to World Health Organization, Safe food is vital for
promotion of good human health, well being, and overall, life
sustainability
• Adversely, unsafe food creates a vicious cycle of food-borne
illnesses and malnutrition, particularly affecting infants, young
children, elderly, sick, and the disabled, including visually impaired
individuals.
