The Institute of Medicine defines evidence-based practice


(EBP) as a combination of the following three factors: (1)
best research evidence, (2) best clinical experience, and (3)
consistent with patient values (IOM, 2001).

Evidence-based practice in psychology (EBPP) is the


integration of the best available research with clinical
expertise in the context of patient characteristics, culture,
and preferences (American Psychological Association,
2006).

And "it also requires the health professional to consider


characteristics of the practice context in which they work."

Evidence-based practice is an approach to clinical


practice that calls for research, specifically quantitative
experimental designs, to determine the best clinical
