Introduction
UPI was launched on 11th April 2016 by ex-RBI governor Shri Raghuram Rajan, and was
publicly available from 25th August 2016.

UPI was developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

UPI stands for Unified Payments Interface.

UPI is a system that allows you to transfer money between bank accounts using a single
mobile application Like Google pay, Phone pay etc.
You can send or receive money or scan a QR code to pay a person, a merchant.

UPI payments are very fast and typically payment can be completed within seconds.

Almost every bank allows UPI transactions through mobile applications.

These mobile payment applications also offer the facility of bill payments.

Disadvantage

There can be delays in payments due to network or bank server


issues.
Deducted money can take up to 48 hours to be credited again in case of
a failed transaction.

The 6-digit PIN may not be strong enough to prevent unauthorized


access or fraud.
