Importance of scavengers

in our environment

There are three tropic levels
Autotrophs - that produce their own food. These
includes plants , algae etc.

Herbivores - that consume plants and other


autotrophs . These include cow, buffalo etc
Scavengers , other carnivores and
omnivores ,organism that consume both plants and
animals , are third trophic level
Scavengers
scavengers is an organism that consumes mostly decaying
biomass ,such as meat or rotting plant matter
for example – eagles , vultures , hyena

Importance
Scavengers play an important role in food web . The
keep an ecosystem free of the bodies of dead
animals or carrion
Scavengers breakdown the organic material and
recycle it into the ecosystem as nutrients
They use keen senses to locate rotting carrion while
they are soaring high over land
They serve as natural sanitation service
