Gospel Reading: Luke 9:57-62

 57 As Jesus and his disciples were proceeding on

their journey, someone said to him, “I will follow
you wherever you go.”
58 Jesus answered him, “Foxes have dens and birds
of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has
nowhere to rest his head.”
59 And to another he said, “Follow me.” But he
replied, “Lord, let me go first and bury my father.”
60 But he answered him, “Let the dead bury their dead. But
you, go and proclaim the Kingdom of God.”
61 And another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but first let
me say farewell to my family at home.”
62 Jesus answered him, “No one who sets a hand to the
plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the
Kingdom of God.”
Prayer
Father God, as we start this day for new learning,
we ask for your guidance. Lead us all the way. May You
let us see through your eyes, listen through your ears,
and speak with your Mouth. Be with us as we explore
the world. Give us the heart to love and be kind to one
another. Please watch over all our teachers, children,
families, and friends. In Jesus’ name. Amen

OCEAN
 Panthalassa single enormous
ocean that surrounded the
Pangea
 Also called Paleo-Pacific (old
Pacific)

Southern Ocean, also called Antarctic Ocean, body of salt water
covering approximately one-sixteenth of Earth’s total ocean area.
North Pacific Ocean, the northern part of the Pacific Ocean, extending from
the equator to the Arctic Ocean.
South Pacific Ocean, The southern Pacific Ocean is bounded by South
America, West Antarctica and Australia
North Atlantic Ocean
South Atlantic Ocean
Indian Ocean

Indian Ocean, body of salt water

covering approximately one-fifth
of the total ocean area of the
world. It is the smallest,
geologically youngest, and
physically most complex of the
world’s three major oceans
(Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian)
Arctic Ocean, smallest of the world’s oceans, centering approximately on the
North Pole.

THE HYDROLOGIC
CYCLE
The Hydrologic Cycle

• Transpiration
plants lose water vapor through their
leaves
• Evaporation
the process that changes liquid water
to gaseous water (water vapor). Water
moves from the Earth's surface to the
atmosphere via evaporation.
• Condensation
water vapor cools and condenses and
forms water droplets that forms a cloud
The Hydrologic Cycle

• Precipitation
water released from clouds in the form of
rain, freezing rain, sleet, snow, or hail. It is the
primary connection in the water cycle that
provides for the delivery of atmospheric water to
the Earth. Most precipitation falls as rain.
• Run off
water that moves across the surface of land
and enters the bodies of fresh water.
• Water table
the upper layer of the surface where the
soil or rocks are permanently soaked with water

THE AQUATIC LIFE

ZONES
Those with little dissolved salts Those with high salt c
 Plankton
- Weakly or freely swimming
microscopic organism found near the surface
 Phytoplankton
- as the primary producers, serves as
the foundation of the aquatic food webs
 Zooplankton
- planktons that feed on other
planktons
 Nektons
- strong swimmers, which includes
turtles, fish, squids, or sharks
 benthos
- organisms residing mostly at the
bottom, specifically on the seafloor or seafloor
sediments
-sessile (attached to one place)
- motile (has the ability to move around
 Decomposers
- mostly bacteria that degrade organic
compounds from dead bodies and waste of
aquatic organisms
Marine Environment
Coastal Zone
 Shallow ocean water
 Has a warm and nutrient-rich waters that extend
near the shallow edge of the continental shelf.
 Estuaries, coastal wetlands, mangroves, and coral
reefs are also situated in this area
 Coastal zone supports numerous activities

Open Sea Surface
Open Sea Surface
 Extends from the end of the
continental shelf to the vast
region of the ocean where no
land is in sight.
Deep Sea Water zone
Where it is very dark and
very cold with little dissolve
oxygen
Occupies the lowest part of
the ocean.
Freshwater Environment
 Salinity
- expressed as the amount of salt dissolve in water
Freshwater Environment
 Lakes covers about 1.8% of Earth’s surface
 Rivers and streams span only 0.3%
Freshwater Environment
 Littoral Zone
- a shallow zone near the
shore where aquatic plants live
among predatory insects,
amphibians, and small fish.

 The contamination on the bodies of water brought about
mostly by human activities
Point Source
 Pollutants come from identifiable source such as those
discharge by factories
Nonpoint Source
 Pollutants more difficult to trace.
 It includes runoff from fertilizers and pesticides, salts from irrigations,
acid drainage from mines, oil spills, and bacteria from septic tank.
