hysics: Motion-

Speed
Grade 7 SY: 2022-2023
Here’s the
objectives! Describe motion in terms
of speed.

Compute for speed

Of moving objects.
Review
Aside from reference
point, what other
factors will give us an
idea that an object
moved?
Review It covers a
DISTANCE from
the reference
point.

TIME it takes an
object to cover the
distance.
Questions:
-How do you describe the motion of vehicles?
- Are all the vehicles moving fast?
- How do you describe motion in terms of speed?
What are we measuring when we get the distance traveled
by an object at a period of time?

SPEED = distance (d)

time (t)
Units: Km , miles and m
hr hr s
SPEED – scalar quantity
- magnitude/real number
- no direction
- Relationship between distance and
time
What instrument measures the speed
of your car?
SPEEDOMETER
A boat travels 10 km in 0.83 hr.
What is the speed of the boat?

Given : d = 10 Km Find: s
t = 0.83 hr
Soln.
s = d = 10 Km = 12.05 km/hr
t 0.83 hr
At the same time as the boat, a banca also moved
but covered only 7 km. What is its speed?

Given : d = 7 Km Find: s
t = 50 mins or 0.83 hr
Soln.
s = d = 7 Km = 8.43 Km/hr
t 0.83 hr
What can you
say about the
relationship
of SPEED and
DISTANCE ?
What can you
say about the
relationship
of SPEED and
TIME ?
An airplane is flying at a speed of 220 Km/hr. After 2 hrs
how far is the plane?

Given : s = 220 Km/hr Find: d

t = 2 hr
Soln.
d = st = 220 Km x 2 hrs = 440 Km
hr
1. A bus travelled with a speed of
5.25 Km/hr in 3.2 hrs. What is its distance covered?

2. In 1976, John Naber held the world record in the breast

stroke division. He swam a distance of 100 m in 55.49
seconds. What was his speed?

3. A jogger travelled 3.5 Km with a speed of 1.5 Km/hr. How

much time did he spend in travelling?
Instantaneous Speed
Speed at any point of
the trip

Average Speed
Speed covered
through the entire
journey
Global Issue/Valuing: Road traffic accidents increase dramatically worldwide and
become the leading cause of death by injury and the tenth-leading cause of all deaths globally.
With this problem, how do you practice road safety?
Bedan Value: CAUTIOUSNESS (Pagkamaingat)
It is the ability to be prudent, careful and alert to possible problems and dangers.
Manifestation: Follow safety rules.
Evaluate: Calculate for speed.
