History of the American Jewish
community
Jews were present in the Thirteen Colonies
since the mid-17th century. However in small
numbers. Large-scale Jewish immigration
started in the middle of the 19th century when
many German started migrating to the United
States in large numbers due to antisemitic laws
and restrictions being passed in their native
countries. Jewish migration to the United
States increased dramatically in the early
1880s, as a result of persecution and economic
difficulties in parts of Eastern Europe. Most of
these new immigrants were Ashkenazi Jews.
The biggest wave of Jewish migration came
before and during The second world war.
American Jews today
Today there is an 7.6 million American Jews, accounting for 2.4% of the total US population. This
includes 5 million adults who identify their religion as Jewish, 1.2 million Jewish adults who
identify with no religion. The place with the most American Jews is New York with 1.8 million
Jews accounting for 8,7% of the state population. Today Jews are generally well accepted in
American society although there has been increased discrimination towards fundamental
Ashkenazi Jews in recent years. American Jews also tend to be wealthier the rest of the
American population witch has not helped.
Mexicans in America
Mexicans comprise largest amount of Latin Americans in USA. There are 37,2 million Mexicans
now living in America, mostly in the states in southwest of the country. Most of them came to
America because of job opportunities or ran from cartel violence.
Life of Mexicans in the US
Of Corse there are also some problems. There is stereotype that Mexicans are lazy and also
always have jobs like gardener, housemaids, plumbers and other low paying manual jobs or that
are involved in the cartel. And first one is of course just a racist stereotype but it is true that a lot
of Mexicans, even 2nd generation do manual work because lack of education and also because of
lack of education a lot of kids are forced in gangs. The way to fix it is to make "lower class"
schools safer, better and to equipe those people with education to find high paying job.
