TOOLS AND AQUACULTURE

EQUIPMENT -POND PREPARATION-

SELECT APPROPRIATE TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS

Let us first familiarize the following terms.

Equipment -the tools, clothing or any item needed for
a particular activity or purpose.
Tool -any object designed to do a specific kind of work
such as cutting or chopping by applying manual force
or using of motor.
Material -articles or apparatus needed to make or to
do something.
 EQUIPMENT USED FOR DRYING AND HARROWING THE
POND

Water Pump - is a mechanical device that moves fluid or gas by

pressure or suction.
2.Rotavator -is an implement mounted to a tractor used for tilling and
pulverizing the soil

3. Hand tractor -used to pull a plow and harrow in preparing a large area of land.

 SOME OF THE TOOLS USED FOR DRYING AND HARROWING THE POND

1. Hoe - is an ancient and versatile agricultural and horticultural hand tool used to shape soil,
remove weeds, clear soil, and harvest root crops.

2. Mud Scoop - is a scoop for dredging mud from the bottom of a pond.
 4.Spade -a hand tool used to dig or loosen ground or to break up the soil.

5.shovel -is a tool for digging, lifting,

and moving bulk materials.

6. Cultivator - a tool that breaks up soil and

removes weeds in rows where plants are growing or
will be grown.

1. Seine Net A large fishing net made to hang vertically in the water by weights at the lower edge
and floats at the top. used for scooping fish in the water

2. Scoop net – is used for scooping fish in the water.

3. Pipes -are widely used on fish farms to transport water, for example through
dams and dikes or under roads

4. Wood- used as a permanent construction

material should be free from bark wood and
should not have any large holes or too many
knots. It should be well dried and should not
be twisted or split. It should be stored flat in a
dry place with good air circulation.

1.Weighing Scale is used to measure the weights of harvested fish or other

aquatic products

2. Plastic Pail- used for a variety of fluids and

flowable materials.

3. Calculator- allows users to calculate a

recommended liming rate based on the cropping
4. Hand Sprayer-used to spray liquid, where sprayers are commonly used for projection of water, weed
killers, crop performance, materials, pest maintenance chemicals.

5. Secchi Disc -is used to measure water turbidity.

The reading is sometimes called Secchi disc
transparency. Productive ponds usually have a
Secchi Disk Transparency depth between 10 to 30
centimeters.

6. Refractometer -this instrument is designed for

testing the concentration of saltwater in the pond
7. Meter Stick-used to measure objects that are larger than a piece of paper

8. Water Sampler- used to collect water quality

data to assess surface-water and groundwater
resources
EQUIPMENT

1. lime spreader- generally used to spread agricultural lime on fields.

 MATERIALS:

1. Agricultural Lime-is a soil additive made from pulverized limestone or chalk

2. Hand Gloves- a covering for the hand having separate

sections for each of the fingers
and the thumb and often extending part way up the arm

3. Rubber Boots- are shoes that cover your

whole foot and the lower part of your leg
