Getting Started

You use windows to interact with Access. To begin, start


Access 2007. You screen will look similar to the one
shown here.
Ribbon
When you open a database, the ribbon appears at the top of the main Access window, where it displays the
commands in the active command tab.

The ribbon contains a series of command tabs that contain commands. In Access, the main command tabs
are File, Home, Create, External Data, and Database Tools. Each tab contains groups of related commands, and
these groups surface some of the additional new UI elements, such as the gallery, which is a new type of control
that presents choices visually.

• Microsoft Office Access 2007 is a great databases management that includes hundreds
instruments. Access offers a lot of new features and updates and thanks to it we can say it’s the
next step in the Access evolution

Microsoft Access is a database software package.


A database is an organized collection of records.
Telephone and address books are examples of paper databases. With Access, you can create a
computerized database. For example, you can use Access to organize the students who attend a school,
the courses they take, and the instructors who teach them. After you create an Access database, you
can search it, manipulate it, and extract information from it. This lesson introduces you to Access
windows and teaches you how to create a database
• Creating a Database
• Start Access
• Select Blank Database
• In the File Name field enter a name for the database
• Click Create

Microsoft Access automatically creates a new table in the database called
• Table1. This is a temporary name until the table is saved.
Opening
• Open Microsoft Access 2016 program.
• 2. Click on File (on left top corner) >
• Open (or press Ctrl + O)
• Browse, this will start Open dialog.
• Click the Office Button at upper-left corner;
• Move you mouse onto the Save As item;
• Then you will view the Save the database in another format area. Just select the Access 2002 – 2003 Database and save a
copy in MDB format which will be compatible with Access 2002 -2003.
Table
MS Access tables are the key objects in the Access file, as they contain the data that is stored in the
database. Tables are made up of rows and columns and allow for direct data entry into their grids.
The row is the record that contains the individual data pieces making up an individual record. The
columns, also referred to as fields, consist of categorized information.
• record: Contains specific data, like information about a particular employee or a product.
• A field: Contains data about one aspect of the table subject, such as first name or e-mail address.

• First of all open MS Access as follows:
• Star Button All Programs
• Microsoft Office
• Microsoft Office Access 2007
• Now click on the Blank Space and provide the name for the data you are going to create.
• To use Design view to create a new table:

• Activate the Create tab.


• Click Table Design in the Tables group. Access changes to
Design view and the Table Tools become available
• Type the first field name in the Field Name field.
• Press the Tab key.
• Click the down-arrow that appears when you click in the Data Type field and then select a data type.
• Click Primary Key if the column you created is a primary key. A small key appears next to the field name.
• Press the Tab key.
• Type a description. The description is optional.
• Press the Tab key. Access moves to the Field Name field.
• Repeat steps 3 through 10 until you have created all of your fields

• After you create a table, you must name and save it.

Click the Save button on the Quick Access toolbar. The Save As dialog box appears.
• Type the name you want to give your table.
• Click OK. Access names your table
