Notes: What We Measure & Why
Individual block voltage – ensure correct charge and performance
under load
Individual block impedance – impedance change gives a solid life
trend and end of life assessment.
Ambient temperature at the cabinet/rack – high temperatures kill
batteries. A 10°C increase gives a 50% decrease in life expectancy
String current – allows detection of unbalanced strings, and provides
rapid understanding of battery activity
String voltage – confirmation of UPS operation & compliance with
battery specification
Individual block temperature [optional] – better knowledge of
temperature gradients in cabinets; pre-empt thermal runaway
