INTRODUCTION

 HOSPITAL WASTE MANAGEMENT IS AN IMPERATIVE ENVIRONMENTAL AND

PUBLIC SAFETY ISSUE, DUE TO THE INFECTIOUS AND HAZARDOUS
CHARACTER OF THE WASTE.
AIMS & OBJECTIVES

 To create awareness among dental professionals, radiologists, allied health care

professionals and health care workers on disposal of fixer solution in a harmless manner.
METHODOLOGY

 As for fixer solution recycling, the ADA recommends several possible solutions for dental
practices such as :
 Install a silver recovery unit that can remove silver from used fixer solutions, then recycle
the cartridge.
 Use a service that offers pickup-and-recycle options.
 Collect and drop off the used fixer solution at a designated silver waste drop-off location.
 Send the used fixer solution to a facility that reclaims silver
 Arrange an agreement that will allow sending used fixer solution to a medical radiology lab
or a commercial photographic processing lab.
 Find out whether the manufacturer of the fixer solution used offers a take-back option.
