Radio Access NW

 UTRAN (Universal Terrestrial Radio Access

NW) also called as RNS(Radio Network
Subsysm), performs the functions specific to
WCDMA air interface.
 UTRAN operates in FDD mode and the two
nodes connected to UTRAN are RNC and
Node B.
 RNC(Radio NW Controller) replaces BSC and
Node B replaces BTS in GSM arrangement

Radio Access NW

 In the FDD mode the uplink and down link

uses separate frequency bands.
 The carrier have a bandwidth of 5 MHz.
 The UTRAN chip rate is 3.84 Mcps.
 The spreading factor can vary BETWEEN 4
TO 512.
