Vocab Test – Part B

lexical cloze
Aim
• to assess your vocabulary knowledge, including your understanding of
collocation, fixed phrases and phrasal verbs
Collocation - a word or phrase that is often used with another word or
phrase

Look at this adjective + noun collocation:

a heavy meal NOT a strong meal


BUT:
a strong drink NOT a heavy drink
Words with similar meanings

Phrasal verbs

Task strategy
1. Read the title and whole text quickly, ignoring the spaces.
2. Read the text again. Look at the words before and after each gap to
help you guess what kind of word fits each space.
3. Choose which answer A-D fits the grammar and meaning.
4. If you aren't sure, cross out answers which you know are incorrect.
5. Read the text again to check.
