SYNOPSIS

A study to assess the effectiveness of video assistant

teaching program on knowledge regarding
prevention & prevalence of anemia among B.Sc.
Nursing 1st year students in a selected college of
nursing Durg (C.G)

(MSN)
INTRODUCTION

• Anemia is a problem of not having enough

healthy red blood cells or hemoglobin to
carry oxygen to the body's tissues.

• WHO defines anemia as a condition in which

hemoglobin (Hb) content of blood is lower than
normal as a result of deficiency of one or more
essential nutrients.

• hemoglobin level is ≥12 g/dl

NEED OF STUDY
• Adolescence is the phase of life between childhood
and adulthood, from ages 10 to 19. It is a unique
stage of human development and an important time
for laying the foundations of good health.
• The vast majority of adolescents (90%) live in low- or
middle-income countries (LMICs).
• Nutrition influences growth and development
throughout infancy, childhood, and adolescence,
pieces of evidence show that nutrient needs
including that of iron are the greatest during the
period of adolescence.
NEED OF STUDY

• The risk of anemia increases during adolescent years

with the onset of menstruation and pregnancy.
• Iron loss from menstruation must be countered by
further high iron intake for young women
• Nutritional anemia is one of India’s major public
health problems. The prevalence of anemia ranges
from 33% to 89% among pregnant women and is
more than 60% among adolescent girls.
NEED OF STUDY

• Majority of the adolescents think that they are

in good health and show little concern for
protecting their health.
• Awareness to adolescence is a matter of fact
to be considered due to their negligence. To
have healthy women and mothers, one needs
to be strong and healthy.
Objective of the Study
• To assess the pre-test knowledge regarding
prevention & prevalence of anemia among
B.Sc. Nursing 1st year students in a selected
college of nursing Durg (C.G).
• To assess the post-test knowledge.
• To assess the effectiveness of video assistant
teaching program on knowledge.
• To find out the association between the pre-
test and post-test knowledge.
Hypothesis

• H1:- There will be significant difference

between pre test and post test knowledge
scores regarding prevention & prevalence of
anemia.

• H2:- There will be significant association

between pre test knowledge scores regarding
prevention & prevalence of anemia.
Operational Definition
• Assess: -It is an organized, systematic and continuous process of
collecting data from students regarding prevention & prevalence
of anemia.
• Effectiveness: - In this study effectiveness refers to the extent to
which the video assistant teaching program has achieved the
desired effect as measured by the difference in pre-test and post-
test knowledge score.
• Video assessed Teaching: - In this study, video assessed teaching
refers to systematically developed instructional program using
instructional aids designed to provide information on the
prevention & prevalence of anemia.
Operational Definition
Prevention: - Approaches and activities aimed at reducing the
likelihood that a disease or disorder will affect an individual,
interrupting or slowing the progress of the disorder or reducing
disability.

Prevalence: - Prevalence is the proportion of a population who have a

specific characteristic in a given time period.

Knowledge: -In this study knowledge refers to student's awareness

regarding prevention & prevalence of anemia.

Anemia - In this study anemia is a condition in which you lack enough

healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your body's
tissues.
Limitations

• The study will be limited to B.Sc. Nursing 1st year

students in a selected college of nursing Durg (C.G).”
Research Methodology
• Methodology is a generalized pattern for organizing
procedure for gathering validity and reliable data to
investigate. It is a crucial aspect of research.

• Methodology studies are indispensable in any

scientific discipline and perhaps especially.

• It includes research design, population, study setting,

samples size &technique development and
description of tools, pilot study data collection
method &statistics method to analyze data.
Research Approach

• Research approach guides the researchers what to

research, whom to research when, where a how to
collect the data, method of intervention, how to
analyse and interpret the results.
• The research approach used for this study is
experimental research approach.
Research Design

• It is a planned structure and strategy of investigations done

for answering the research question is the overall plan or blue
print the researcher selects to carry out their study.

• The research is the planned structure and strategy for

investigation and answering the research question. It is the
overall plan or blue print of the research selected to carry out
their study.
– Basvanthappa BT (2002)

• For this study experimental pre-test post-test research design is

used.
Population

• According to Polit & Hungler 1991, refers to entire

aggregation of cases that meets designated criteria.

• The requirement of defining a population for research arises

from need to specify the group to which the result of study
can be applied.

• The population of the present study comprises of 60 B.Sc.

Nursing 1st year students
Setting

• It is a physical location & condition in which data collection

takes place.

• (polit & hungler 1991) the selection of this hospital was done
on the basis of geographical proximity, availability of subjects
feasibility, economy, time and money access.

• The present study will be conducted in R.P. college of nursing

Risali Bhilai.
Sample & Sampling Technique
• According to Polit & Hungler convenient sampling is selected
of most readily available person as participants in study.
• Sample in the study will be B Sc. Nursing students studying in
R.P. college of nursing Risali Bhilai.

1. According to Polit and Hungler (1999) Infer that sampling

refers to the process of selecting a portion of population to
present the entire population.
2. Purposive sampling technique was used to select samples
from B.Sc Nursing 1st year students in a selected college of
nursing Durg (C.G).
Sample Criteria
A) IN CLUSION CRITERIA:
– Who Knows Hindi or English language.

– Who are willing to participate in the study.

– Who are present during the time of study.

B) EXCLUSION CRITERIA:
a) Students who are not regular in class and may not available for the study.
b) Students who are not willing to participate in the study.

SAMPLE SIZE
For the present study, A total of 60 B.Sc. Nursing 1st year students studying in R.P.
college of nursing Risali Bhilai.
DATA Collection Method &
Technique
• “Data” is a pleural of “datum”. Datum means “information”
Data is a fact which is observable and measurable
phenomena.
• A good deal of information can be obtained by distributing
questionnaire method was selected as suitable method to
collect the data required for study.

• Data collection technique are based on objectives and

described systematic.
• Self-structured Questionnaire technique will be used as the
research tools
