Introduction

 Energy is key consideration in discussions of sustainable development

 Sustainable development requires a sustainable supply of clean and

affordable renewable energy sources that do not cause negative societal
impacts

 Wastes are convertible to useful energy forms like hydrogen

(biohydrogen), biogas, bioalcohol, etc through waste-to-energy
technologies

6
Introduction
 Municipal solid waste (MSW) generation in Malawi is increasing as the
country is accelerating toward ever-increasing urbanization,
accompanied by rapid economic expansion and population growth.
 As a result, the importance of an effective waste management
framework is growing in Malawi, and the establishment of WTE
facilities has become and absolute necessity for ensuring life quality and
sustainable economic development

 Wastes are convertible to useful energy forms like hydrogen

(biohydrogen), biogas, bioalcohol, etc through waste-to-energy
technologies
