leadership system
The mice in "Who Moved My Cheese?" – Sniff and Scurry
- display several qualities that can be influential in
leadership.

• Firstly, they are very proactive and take

immediate action when they realize that their
cheese is running out.
• This demonstrates a willingness to take risks
and make changes when necessary, which is an
important trait for leaders to possess.

Secondly, they adapt quickly to changes in their environment,
using trial and error to find new sources of cheese instead of
getting stuck in a rut. This shows an ability to think creatively
and outside the box, which can be beneficial in solving complex
problems.
Lastly, they communicate well with each other, checking in

Hem’s and Haw’s

Presentation title 13
Hem’s and Haw’s Characteristics
Hem is one of the "little people" characters in "Who Moved
My Cheese?" who struggles with change and resists adapting
to new circumstances. Here are some characteristics of Hem:
Fearful: Hem is afraid of the unknown and prefers to stay in his
comfort zone rather than take risks or explore new opportunities.
 Entitled: Hem believes that he is entitled to the cheese he has
always had, and feels it is unfair that it is no longer available.

14
Hem’s Characteristics……..
Blames Others: Hem blames others for his current situation and thinks
that someone else must be responsible for why the cheese is no longer
there.
Negative Attitude: Hem has a negative attitude towards change and
believes that things will never get better, which holds him back from
finding new opportunities. These characteristics of Hem are what make it
difficult for him to adapt when he encounters new challenges and changes
in his life.

15
Haw’s Characteristics
The characteristics of Haw can be
influential in leadership in several ways.
Here are some examples:

 Adaptability: As a leader, being adaptable means being

able to adjust to changing circumstances and come up with
creative solutions to overcome obstacles.
Reactive: Take time to change

16
….Haw’s Characteristics
 Positivity: Positive leaders can motivate and inspire their team
members even in challenging situations. A positive attitude can
foster a sense of optimism, creativity, and enthusiasm among team
members.

Resilience: Leaders who are resilient can push through setbacks,

stay determined, and maintain focus on their goals. This can help
them persevere through challenging times and lead their team
toward success. Overall, the characteristics of Haw show that
being adaptable, proactive, curious, positive, and resilient are all
important qualities for effective leadership. Leaders who possess
these traits can inspire and motivate their team members to work
together toward achieving shared goals in an ever-changing
environment.

Lesson We Took
From the Story
Presented by Eshetu
Lesson #1 Don’t hold your cheese (change will happen)

Embrace change. Change is the only constant in the world. Whether it is your
job or business, things change over time & you need to change as well.
Otherwise, you will lose your cheese like Hem in the story.
People or businesses who didn’t changed over time lost their customers.

Presentation title 19
Lesson #2 Don’t react, Respond

When cheese disappeared Hem & Haw reacted to the change.

They reacted with blaming each other & did nothing to
change conditions. Instead they could have done things
which were in their control. Similarly, as change happen we
need to look for new opportunities & ways to grow.

Presentation title 20
Lesson #3 Overcome Fear

You might stay where you are because of your fear like Haw. But when you imagine
your good fortune that will come with adopting change, your fear will disappear.
Remember the Haw’s words,
” What would you do if you weren’t afraid?”.

Presentation title 21
Lesson #4 Stay Aware

There are some people like sniff & scurry who always stay
aware of changing situations. These are the people who
notice the change earlier, adopt it & enjoy the benefits. You
must do the same. Look for changes that will happen in the
next 5-10 years. Start learning new skills & moving your
business.

Presentation title 22
Lesson #5 Enjoy Change

Many people think of change is bad. They always look in

the past. Change is not always bad. In fact, whatever
technology we are enjoying now is the result of new
changes happened over time. When you admit change &
think positively about it, you will start enjoying the change.

Presentation title 23
Core Message of the story

instead thrive in an environment of
change and uncertainty.
