DISCOVERY OF BLOOD
TYPES, STARTS OF
BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS
HISTORY

Karl Landsteiner—Austrian and American doctor, chemist, immunologist,

infectious disease specialist.
The first researcher in the field of immunohematology
and immunochemistry, author of works on the molecular
and cellular physiology of the body's reaction to blurred antigens
and the specific and nonspecific phenomena that arise.

James Blundell was an English obstetrician who performed

the first successful transfusion of human blood
to a patient for treatment of a haemorrhage.
BLOOD TYPE DIET
➤ In 1996, naturopath Peter D'Adamo published the book The Blood Type Diet. The doctor argued that we
should adjust our diet according to our blood type and thus bring our body into harmony with its genetic
heritage.

➤ D'Adamo recommended his diet as a way to reduce the risk of infections, lose weight, prevent cancer and
diabetes, and slow down the aging process.

➤ Recently, researchers from the Red Cross in Belgium also decided to find out whether there was any
objective evidence in favor of these diets. They reviewed the scientific literature and found more than a
thousand studies in this area. However, none of them confirmed Peter D'Adamo's theory. Despite this,
some people who follow the blood type diet still experience positive results.
