• 2 types:
– Dystrophic Calcification
– Metastatic Calcification
Dystrophic Calcification
• When the deposition occurs in dead or dying
tissues, in the absence of derangements in
calcium metabolism (i.e., with normal serum
levels of calcium).
• Seen in:
– Atheromas
– Aging or damaged heart valves
• Psammoma Bodies – resembles grains of salts
– seen in papillary carcinomas of thyroid and
ovary, Meningiomas.
