 In realizing the mission initiated and continuosly inspired by


St. Vincent de Paul, he reminded his followers with these
words, “however great the work that God may achieve as an
individual, he/she must not indulge in self-satisfaction. He
should rather be more humbled, seeing him/herself merely as a
tool which God has made use of.”
VS 104 COURSE DESCRIPTION

 Faithful to the missionary nature of the Catholic Church and to


the calling of Pope Francis to go to the periphery and have
an encounter with the marginalized, this subject will enable
the learners to engage in a more active immersion to and direct
contact with the poor that will lead to the embodiment of the
true imitation and living out of the Vincentian spirituality.

The Fathers of the Church
• The word FATHER is used in the New Testament to mean “a teacher of
spiritual things” by whose means the soul of man is born into the likenesss
of Christ.
• The first teachers of Christianity collectively spoken as “the Fathers –
Church Fathers, Christian Fathers, ”, they may also be influential
theologians, bishops or scholars

The Purpose of the Fathers of the Church
• They were ancient and influential Christian theologians and writers
considered by the Church as models of Christian living and authentic
witnesses of Christian faith.
• Their lives and writings were exemplary in building Christian community
life and decisive in matters of doctrine establish the intellectual and
doctrinal foundations of Christianity.
