HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
 CATERING-Catering is the process or
business of preparing food and providing
food services for clients at remote
locations, such as hotels, restaurants,
offices, concerts, and events. Companies
that offer food, drinks, and other
services to various customers, typically
for special occasions, make up the
catering sector.
 FOOD AND BEVERAGE-Food and
beverages means any raw,
cooked, or processed edible
substance used or intended for
use in whole or in part for
human consumption, including
ice, water, spirituous liquors,
wine, mixed beverages, beer,
soft drinks, soda, and other
beverages.
 KITCHEN-a room or area where
food is prepared and cooked.
 RECEPTION AND GUEST
RELATIONS-Guest relations are
responsible for greeting &
welcoming the guest in a
friendly and professional manner
when they arrive, escorting the
guest to the room.
 FRONT OF THE HOUSE-The front of the
house, also called the FOH, refers to all
actions and areas that a customer will
be exposed to during their stay at a
restaurant, such as the lobby and dining
area.
 HUMAN RESOURCES-Human Resources
(HR) is the department within a business
or organization responsible for managing
its employees. HR is responsible for
hiring, firing, and managing employee
benefits, payroll, and other staffing
needs.
 HOUSEKEEPING-Housekeeping means
performing all the duties towards sweeping,
polishing, vacuuming, maintaining
orderliness, and removing waste materials
(e.g., paper, cardboard) and other fire
hazards free from Hotel & property.
 SALES AND MARKETING-The Marketing and
Sales team is responsible for maximising a
hotel's revenue by developing strategies and
business plans to increase revenue. The
team is tasked with making profits from
business verticals such as room occupancy,
event spaces, leisure facilities, restaurants,
etc.
 SECURITY-the management of security in
hotels, lodging, entertainment facilities as
well as in the tourism industry.
 MAINTENANCE-Hotel maintenance is the
upkeep of the various systems and
components used in the hospitality
industry.
 HYGIENE AND FOOD SAFETY-Food Hygiene,
otherwise known as Food Safety can be
defined as handling, preparing and storing
food or drink in a way that best reduces
the risk of consumers becoming sick from
the food-borne disease.
