Sacraments are symbols and symbolic acts that
give salvation
The signs and symbols that are used in the
Church are special because they don’t
just represent something make visible what is
invisible, Symbols, such as:
wine and bread—consecrated into the
Blood and body of Jesus make
the offering Himself present to
us today
Symbolic acts of touch ( , anointing.
lying hands, washing)
Symbolic acts of gesture ( Standing,
bowing, kneeling)
Symbolic acts of word ( proclaiming,
responding ,taking vows)
= help us to see, hear, feel God’s saving love
for us
Sacraments come from the ministry
of Jesus
When we celebrate the
sacraments today, we remember
Jesus ministry during His human life
here on earth. Each sacrament
celebrate a part of Jesus life:
His baptism and initiation into ministry,
His commitment and faithfulness,
leadership, table –fellowship, healing
people and forgiveness of their sins.
Jesus instituted the sacrament Words by
being the first sacrament of God’s love
to the world through His word and
actions.
Sacrament are continued in and through the
church.
It is the responsibility of the Church to make
sure that the rites of the sacrament are done in
a way that honor Jesus and expresses true faith
in Him
The way these sacraments are celebrated is
unique to the Catholic Church
Together with the different
ministries that continues the
mission of Jesus, we can say that
the Church is the sacrament of
Christ.
Sacrament are celebration of Faith
The sacraments are celebration of our
faith in God who saves us. Each sacrament
aims to make us more loving persons,
unite us with other people in the
community and worship God in each stage
of our lives.
These sacramental celebration are also
called rituals-symbolic actions that
expresses our faith in physical way.
Example of these are ritual of healing
people from the hurt created by sin.
or a ritual that expresses the readiness to
serve through the grace of the Holy Spirit
Sacramentals mold us into the image of
Jesus
Jesus is the source of all sacraments.
He is the one who, through the words
and actions of the priest and bishops,
baptize, confirms. Forgive, heals,
consecrate for service, bind in love and
offer Himself in sacrifice
.
There are seven sacraments are grouped
into three:
1. The sacrament of initiation: Baptism,
Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist
2. The sacrament of Healing :
Reconciliation, and anointing of the sick
3. The sacrament of Commitment: Holy
Orders, and Matrimony
The sacraments are companions in our
journey of faith. They help us face the
different events in our live.
* They welcome us after our birth
( Baptism )
* Strengthen as we mature in our faith
( confirmation )
*Nourish us constantly ( Eucharist )
• cleanse us from our sins and restore our
friendship with God and with one another
( Reconciliation)
• Give us courage to be faithful in our mission
in life ( Holy Orders and Matrimony
• And give us hope for salvation in our
moments of weakness and as we near our last
day on earth ( Anointing )
