Kinds of Sentences

A declarative sentence expresses a statement. It ends with a period.


The Saint Bernard has a thick brown and white coat.
An interrogative sentence asks a question. It ends with a question mark.
Is that beautiful collie your pet?
An imperative sentence tells or asks someone to do something. It usually ends with a
period but may end with an exclamation point.
Please feed the dog his supper.
An exclamatory sentence shows strong feeling. It always ends with an exclamation
point.
What a huge dog that is!
