Definition
Foam Concrete:
 A type of lightweight concrete that is manufactured from
cement, sand/fly ash, water and foam. Foam concrete is in the
form of foamed mortar.

 Consists of minimum 20 percent of foam (by volume), that is

mechanically entrained into the plastic mortar.

 Is a popular and established material in construction industry

for its lower self-weight, high workability, self-compaction and
thermal insulation.

Composition
 Foaming agent (Hydrolyzed proteins or synthetic surfactants)

 Fly ash

 Binding material

 Admixtures

 Water

 Fine Aggregate (for achieving higher densities)

Manufacturing
 At first cement, fly ash, admixture and water is mixed to form a slurry

 The foam is created using a foaming agent mixed with water and air
from a generator.

 The slurry is then mixed with the synthetic aerated foam in a

concrete mixing plant.
