Abu'l-Fazl ibn Mubarak

 Abul fazl was an Indian writer, historian, and politician who served as
the grand vizier of the Mughal Empire from his appointment in 1579,
until his death in 1602.

 FazI was initially appointed into Akbar's court as a military


commander serving in Deccan, where he was held in high regard.

 FazI is often referred to as one of the Nine Jewels( Navaratnas) of


Akbar's royal court and the brother of Faizi, the poet laureate of
Emperor Akbar.
AKBAR NAMA
• The Akbarnama of Abu'l-Fazl is a history of the reign of Akbar,
including an account of his predecessors.

• This work retains its uniqueness as it highlights minute details of


customs and traditions of the people of India during the reign of
Akbar, the Mughal emperor
• This work has historical significance as its author was Akbar's close
friend and confidential adviser Abul fazl.
• The Akbarnama of Abu-L-Fazl in three volumes.

• The first volume of Akbarnama deals with the birth of Akbar, the
history of Timur's family and the reigns of Babur and Humayun and
the Suri sultans of Delhi.

• The second volume describes the detailed history of the reign of


Akbar till 1602 and records the events during Akbar's reign. It also
deals with how Bairam Khan and Akbar won the battle of Panipat
against Hemu, an Indian warrior.
• The third volume, called the Ain-i-Akbari describes the
administrative system of the Empire as well as containing the famous
"Account of the Hindu Sciences". It also deals with Akbar's household,
army, the revenues and the geography of the empire.

• It also produces rich details about the traditions and culture of the
people living in India. It is famous for its rich statistical details about
things as diverse as crop yields, prices, wages and revenues.
• The Akbarnama is a collection of texts and illustrated manuscripts
written in Farsi (Persian). It is currently preserved in a museum in
London.

• In the early twentieth century, the Akbarnama was translated into


English by Henry Beveridge
