A team game or team sports is a
game in which groups of players
compete against each other. It is a
physical and mental competition played
according to the rules, with the
participants in direct opposition to each
other.
Playing team sports can enhance individual
athletic skills and develop teamwork,
cooperation, sportsmanship and group
dynamics. These kinds of sports are played by
different players with specific roles and
oppositions.
Basketball and volleyball are two of the
most popular team sports in the world.
Playing these sports is a way to be
physically active.
Basketball – is a team sport played by
two teams each with five players
(sometimes two or three). The objectives
of each team are as follows.:
1. Score points by throwing or shooting a
basketball on the other team’s basket.
2. Prevent the other team from scoring.

The game is played on a rectangular court

with two baskets or goals on opposite ends.
Basic Basketball Skills

Dribbling
- Is the act of moving a ball forward by bouncing it
multiple times from the hand to the floor back.
The following steps in dribbling the ball:
1. Touch the ball using your fingertips, not your palm.
2. Bounce the ball by flicking your wrist up and down in
quick, continuous succession.
3. Control your dribbles. Try to dribble without looking at
the ball.
4. Dribble with your right hand first for a minute or two.
Then dribble with your left hand. Repeat until you have
mastered this skills.
Basic Basketball Skills

Shooting

objective of making it go into the goal. A player scores

2. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart for good

a 90 angle. The ball must be above your head.

up and slightly forward to the goal.

2. At the apex of your jump, move your wrist towardthe

goal to release the ball.
Basic Basketball Skills

Passing
- Is the act of throwing the ball to a teammate using the
arms and wrists.
- One basic pass in the basketball is the chest pass.
The chest pass is called as such because the pass
originates from the chess.
The following steps in passing:
1. Grip the ball on the sides with both hands and place it at
chest level. Both your arms must be bent at the elbow such
that each forms the letter V.
2. Throw the ball to your target (chest level of the receiver) by
thrusting your arms forward and flicking both of your wrist
outward. As you release the ball, both of your thumbs must
be straight down while both of your palms will be facing
outward. To generate more force, you may step forward as
you deliver the pass.
Volleyball – is at team sport played by
two teams with six players each. The
objective of each team is to score by
making the ball hit the ground on the
opponent’s side of the court. The players
use their hands to hit the ball over a high
net placed at the center of the court.

he or she is responsible for controlling the games in terms of
flow of play.
• Middle blocker/hitter – the middle blocker transitions to the
middle hitter depending on whether his or her team is on
offense or on defense.
• Outside hitter – outside hitter can play in both at the back
row and the front row. On offense, they often score a number
of the points via the attacking third touch; on defense, they
often receive the ball during the serve along with the libero.
• Opposite – the opposite is a well-rounded player who
possesses all of the skills necessary for both offense and
defense.
• Libero – The libero is specialty position in volleyball whose
focus is playing defense. He or she plays only in the back
row wears a different color of team jersey to distinguish
himself/herself from the other players.

one hand and swings the other in an arc motion below

to put it in play.
