saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. The GREAT COMMISSION Matthew 28:18-20 I. THE EMPHASIS OF MISSION In Matthew 28:18-20, we see Jesus as the King of Kings so in this instance of the commission we find His Kingship emphasized. Matthew 28:18-20 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. I. THE EMPHASIS OF MISSION 1. The power of the King - "all power". 2. The purpose of the King - "make disciples". 3. The process of the King - "going, preaching, baptizing". 4. The presence of the King - "I am with you". II. THE EXPLANATION OF MISSION In Mark 16:15 , the Bible says 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. II. THE EXPLANATION OF MISSION 1. The Method of Missions is preaching. …preach the gospel to every creature. 2. The Place of Missions is the world not local And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world. 3. The Message of Missions is the gospel. …preach the gospel to every creature. GIST: When we speak of the great commission, we speak of the great responsibility given to the church and the command to execute it.
This commission is given five times after the
resurrection of Christ and before His ascension. REFECTION: The failure of many mission movements has been that of proclaiming the gospel but not "growing“ the convert. REFECTION: How about this church, What failure do we encounter in proclaiming the gospel? Why are we not growing in our mission support? What is the emphasis of mission for you? Do you understand you are part of the REFECTION: Are we growing as God’s converts? Do you notice the four words: go, teach, baptize, teach? What can you contribute to fulfill the Great Commission? Or do you want to help? If not you, then who? If not today…then When?
