On July 17,1918, the Romanovs
were shot in a cellar by the
Bolsheviks but there was myth that
Anastasia Romanov was the only
one to survive the violent massacre
of the entire family of Tsar
Nicholas II.

WHERE DID IT HAPPEN?

The Romanov family went to

Yekaterinburg and settled in the
Ipatiev house (where the massacre
happened), under guard. Although it
was not their only residence, since
they used to move them from one
place to another so that they
wouldn’t be found by the counter-
revolution.

Anna Anderson
She was the woman that pretended
to be Anastasia Romanov when it
got announced that her body and
her little brother’s weren’t found
among the others.
Rasputin
It is said that Rasputin had threatened that if
they killed him out of the way, no member of
the Tsar's family would outlive him for more
than two years, and they did. Anastasia loved
Rasputin as a relative, being considered by
her mother to be her younger brother's
savior.

MYSTERY
People thought that Anastasia and his brother Alexei were still alive because
their bodies weren’t among the rest of their family. That is why numerous
women came forward and claimed to be the Grand Duchess Anastasia.Anna
Anderson was perhaps the best known of the imposters. She claimed that she—
Anastasia—had been wounded but survived and was rescued from the basement
by a guard who was sympathetic to the royal family.Anderson died in 1984. Ten
years later, a DNA sample concluded that she was not related to the Romanov
family.Studies on new remains found ended the story of this impostor and
revealed that the real Anastasia had been murdered along with her entire family
at dawn on June 17, 1918.
