Simile - Two unrelated objects are being compared

Imagery
Engages the senses to deepen the
reader’s comprehension of what is
happening and how to feel about it.
The grass tickled her feet like soft velvet.

The snow covered the ground like a


blanket of white velvet.

The warm doughnut tasted sweet with


hints of vanilla and strawberry.
Symbolism
Uses symbols which can be words, people, marks,
locations, or abstract ideas to represent something
beyond the literal meaning.
Personification
It gives human attributes to nonhuman objects.
Theme
It is a universal idea, lesson or message
explored throughout a work of literature.
SYNECDOCHE
-uses a part of something to
represent the whole.
Ex.
He has many mouths to feed.

Princess got a new wheels!


METONYMY
- is formed by the use of a term to
substitute another term that is closely related.

Ex.
We will swear loyalty to the crown.
The pen is mightier than the sword.
SOUND DEVICES

Is a literary tool employed in verse plays, poetry and prose to


emphasize various sounds.
Allows writers to amplify certain sonic elements through the
repetition of chosen vowel or consonant sounds, units of
rhythm, or by mimicking sounds that occur naturally in the
world outside of the text.
