TYPES OF
GRAFTING
GRAFTING •The art of joining parts
of plants together in
such a manner that will
unite and continue their
growth as one plant
TWO PARTS OF
PLANT TO BE
CONSIDERED
IN GRAFTING:
SCION ROOTSTOCK

the short piece of detached The lower portion of the graft

shoot with one to several which develops into the root
dormant buds system of the grafted plant
WHIP OR TONGUE
GRAFTING
The technique is
similar to splice
grafting except that
the whip on the
rootstock holds the
tongue of the scion in
place and vice versa
SPLICE
GRAFTING
This simple method
class is usually applied
to herbaceous materials
that callus or “knit
easily”, or it is used on
plants with a stem
diameter of ½ inch or
less
SIDE GRAFTING
This technique was
popular for
grafting varieties
of rhododendrons
that are difficult to
root
CLEFT
GRAFTING
In this technique, the
rootstock should range
from 1 to 4 inches in
diameter. The scion
should be about ¼ inch
in diameter, straight and
long enough to have at
least 3 buds
BRIDGE
GRAFT
It provides support as
well as a pipeline that
allows water and
nutrients to move
across the damaged
area
BARK GRAFT
Used to propagate
plants by joining the
bark of a scion on to
the bark of the root
stock
SADDLE
GRAFT
It is a bit more complex
than other grafting
methods, but it can
result in a strong and
successful union
