Post-Impressionism
- The work or style of a varied group of late 19 th-
century and early 20th-century artist including Van Gogh,
Gaugin, and Cezzane. They reacted against the naturalism
of the impressionist to explore color, line, and form, and
the emotional response of the artist, a concern which led to
the development of expressionism.

- Artist involved in the post-impressionist movement


did away with the evanescent light and the candid scenes
valued the vibrancy of colors and application of short
strokes. They preferred dimensional depths colors, the
personal and spiritual subjects, and developed their own
style from the techniques of impressionist.

- Like most radical artist of the previous art
Fauvism movements, works of fauvist artists, particularly
(1899-1908) painters, were considered by their critics as
savage, unprofessionally painted, unruly colored,
and coarse.

- The fauvist painters adapted the brushstroke


technique of the post-impressionist painters and
deliberate choice of bright and bold, sometimes
violent, colors of the post-impressionists and
expressionists artists, to display strong chromatics
saturated hues and give new dimensional
meanings to colors through their individual
representations.
