What is ABAP?
ABAP is a high level programming language created by SAP that helps
large corporations to customize the SAP ERP. ABAP can help customize
workflows for financial accounting, materials management, asset
management, and all other modules of SAP. SAP’s current development
platform NetWeaver also supports both ABAP and Java.
The ABAP full form in SAP is Advanced Business Application.
Why SAP ABAP?
Here are the reasons for using SAP ABAP:
•SAP ABAP is used by developers to develop the SAP R3 Platform.
•It is a simple language that is easy to learn when it comes to programming.
•It allows you to choose from procedural and object-oriented programming.
•It also helps SAP customers to improve their SAP-based applications.
•It allows you to create custom reports and interfaces.
•ABAP language is quite easy for programmers. However, it is not a right
tool that can be used by non-programmers
ABAP Overview:

Data Dictionary: Central Repository of SAP Server store Objectives and

Properties
, DATA stored in only DATA Base Table(View, Data Type, Type group,
Doming..)
Programming : This concept is the Core ABAP, Where We learn How to
Write Logic of any Requirement. ( Reporting only study no modification ,
Module pole can Manipulate data)
Forms: Concept to create Invoice ,Where we bring Data from DATA Table
&Present it on in a page layout along with static DATA.( Script,
Smart Forms, Adobe Forms(manipulating))
Conversions: Used for one Time Loading of data in SAP from legacy
system
( Non SAP System) Ex: New Mobile loading application ,
OOPS: Object Oriented Programing ( Existing Code can use )
Enhancement: Add the peace of code with Existing SAP code
Cross Application –Intraction SAP to Non SAP System
History of SAP ABAP
Here are important landmarks from the history of ABAP
•ABAP is a 4/GL( Fourth generation) language developed in the 1980s.
•ABAP becomes a language for developing a program for the client-server,
•which was first released in the year 1992.
•In the year 1999, SAP introduced an object-oriented extension known as
•ABAP Objects
•In 2006, 7.0 version released which offer switch framework feature
•In, 2012, The version released with Table expressions feature
•In 2015, with version 7.5 start supporting Open SQL expressions.
•With version 7.52 in 2017, virtual sorting of the internal table feature
• introduced.
ABAP Runtime Environment
All ABAP programs stored in SAP database. However, they are never stored
in external files like C++ and Java programs.
In the database, all the code is written in ABAP present in two different forms:
Source code, which can be view and edit with the help of ABAP Workbench
tools, and generated code. It is a binary representation that is quite similar
to Java byte code. ABAP programs allow you to control the runtime system,
which is part of the SAP kernel. The runtime system also allows a process for
ABAP statements. It controls the logic of screens and responds to user events
like user click or mouse hover.
Label Integration ABAP

•Move Label Creation closer

To the Business
•Reduce Response Time
•Lower the cost of Label and
Creation
•Enables a quicker, More agile
Label Production Process.

Product Safety:

If you produce and sell hazardous substances in your company, you must
protect humans and the environment from the hazards these substances
pose. You also have to observe numerous laws and regulations on
hazardous substances worldwide. This SAP component helps you to
handle hazardous substances safely and bring them safely onto the market,
and also comply with all relevant regulations automatically
Integration:
You must have installed the following SAP components to be able to use all
functions in the SAP component Product Safety :

Report Shipping:

Technical name: SAP_EHS_SAF_REPORTSHIPPING

Tasks
The task of this role is to manage the report shipping orders. You use
Customizing to control the process of report shipping and you can use
your own individual program enhancements.
Integration
You can use the Report Creation role
(SAP_EHS_SAF_REPORTGENERATION) to specify the information
content and layout of reports.Reports that contain data from the
specification database must be released before they can be shipped.
You can release them in the Report Management role
(SAP_EHS_SAF_REPORTEDIT). Alternatively, in the Report Creation
role (SAP_EHS_SAF_REPORTGENERATION), you can set up the
system so that reports are released automatically.
Reports that do not contain data from the specification database are
automatically considered as released.
All released reports can be shipped manually in the
Report Information System – Product Safety role
(SAP_EHS_SAF_REPORTINFO).
Process Report Shipping :
A report shipment has been triggered by the previous step. Here we now
accept the report shipping order(s) as further quality assurance measure
for further processing and print out.
Prerequisites:
In Customizing for Product Safety, you have made settings in the Report
Shipping section and set up the shipping reason.
For shipping inbound reports, you must have carried out the procedure
Setting Up Shipping of Reports in Any Format.
•Automatic report shipping is supported as standard for reports of the
report category Material safety data sheet. As a prerequisite the SAP
System must be able to select the following data uniquely:
Report recipient
•Report
•Sender (MSDS Initiator (Sales Organization))
Reports with a specification reference must have been released in report management
Reports without a specification reference are considered as released as
soon as you have assigned a suitable generation variant to the released
report template.
The reports you want to send must belong to the same report category.
As different report categories belong to different business categories,
simultaneous shipping is not possible.
You have installed the current EH&S version of Windows Wordprocessor
Integration (WWI) and made settings in the Report Generation section of

Substance Volume Tracking:
In many countries, regulations state that, above a certain quantity of
chemicals and other hazardous substances, you must register with the
authorities the maximum quantities of these substances that you plan to
purchase, import, produce, sell, or export within a certain period.
Substance volume tracking helps you to comply with the relevant
regulations by recording the quantities of substances needing to be
tracked that you purchase, import, produce, sell, or export. By comparing
the recorded quantities with the limit values, the system can warn you in
good time before a limit value is exceeded; if a limit value is exceeded,
the system can also block the respective business process.
This means you can ensure that you stay below the quantity limits.
Features
The substance volume tracking supports the following functions:
•Compliance with legal regulations
•Evaluation of tracked quantities with traffic light status
•Support of quantity-dependent regulations
•Support of quantity-independent regulations
•Use
In the overview tree on the SAP Easy Access screen, choose SAP Menu Logistics Environment,
Health and Safety Product Safety Substance Volume Tracking
The Substance Volume Tracking node is expanded. The menu paths described in this application
help are based on navigation in the lower-level nodes
Substance volume tracking is integrated with the logistics processes for
purchasing, manufacturing, and sales.
It tracks, calculates, aggregates,
and monitors the imported, produced, and exported substance volumes
that result from these processes.
Features
•Substance volume tracking supports the following functions:Tracking volumes of
imported, exported, and produced substances on a legal entity level and based on
the relevant compliance requirements (regulations).
•Definition of legal entities and mapping manufacturing, supplying, or receiving
plants to these legal entities.
•Substance volume aggregation based on the tracking period of the relevant
compliance requirement version.
•Calculation of substance volume tracking status based on the aggregated volumes
and the thresholds in the respective compliance requirements.
•Monitoring substance volumes, providing detailed information about the
aggregated substance volumes, and tracing information back to the specific
logistics document via the Monitor Substance Volumes (F4693) app.
Definition: substance list
Environment, Health and Safety (EHS)
A register containing substances that display certain properties.
The substance list is compiled with a view to regulatory requirements.
