• A sequence is a list of numbers or objects in a
defined or logical order that are linked by a rule. If
you work out the rule, you can work out the next
numbers in the sequence.

• Patterns are repetitive sequences and can be

found in nature, shapes, events, sets of numbers,
and alsomst everywhere you care to look.
Example 1

Seven days before his mother’s

birthday, Clark planned to give her
flowers. On the first day, he sent one
flower. On the second day, he sent
three flowers. On the third day, he
Example 2
Rian arranged her marbles according to this
number pattern.

What do you think is the rule/ pattern used to find

the 2nd term? 3rd? 4th? 5th? 6th?
Find the rule/ pattern used for each
sequence. Then write the missing number.

a. 3, 7, 11, 15, _____

b. 105, 100, , 75, _____

c. 6, 10, 15, 21, , _____

Find the missing terms and write the rules.

a. ) 5 , 6 , 8 , ____, 15, ____ RULE:

b.) 18, 20, 24, ____, 38, ____ RULE:
c. ) 55, 54, 51, 46, ____, _____, 19 RULE:
d. ) 82, 81, 78, _____, 66, _____ RULE:

Here are ways this lesson gets into our daily lives:

1. HUMAN DEVELOPMENT. From an infant to a full grown man/

women
2. LIFE CYCLE OF ORGANISMS. It also follows a pattern
3. PETALS OF SUNFLOWER. The way it grows, it is in sequence
4. PINEAPPLE SCALES. The rows and their slopes, the number
of scales in each row exhibiting the pattern
5. THE MONEY IN YOUR PIGGY BANK. If you deposit the same
amount each week.
Remember!

 How do we find/ formulate the rules in finding the next

term in a sequence?
 Determine the order of numbers if it is ascending or
descending
 Find the difference between the consecutive terms
 To find the rule of the next term, use the difference
between terms
Write the rule used for each sequence, then
write the missing number.

A.5, 9, 17, 33,

B.3, 7, 11, 15,
C.20, 12, 8, 6,
D.2, 8, 26, 80,

• An equation that contains a variable is neither true nor false
until the variable is replaces with a number. A variable or
unknown is represented by a letter which may take on different
values. A constant is a fixed value that does not change. The
solution of an equation is a number that makes the sentence
true. The process of finding a solution is called solving an
equation

Properties of Equality

In the addition property of equality, if

two expressions are equal to each other,
you add the same value to both sides of
the equations, the equation will remain
equal
If , then , where are whole numbers.
Properties of Equality

In the subtraction property of equality,

if two expressions are equal to each
other, you subtract the same value to both
sides of the equations, the equation will
remain equal
If , then , where are whole numbers.
Properties of Equality

In the multiplication property of

equality, if two expressions are equal to
each other, you multiply the same value to
both sides of the equations, the equation
will remain equal

Properties of Equality

In the division property of equality, if

two expressions are equal to each other,
you divide the same value to both sides of
the equations, the equation will remain
equal

measures
2.SHOPPING. Shoppers equate their money to what
they will purchase
3.PREDICTING PROFIT. This helps businesspeople to
know the future of a business.
4.BUYING A HOUSE. Buyers get to have an estimate of
purchasing amount of a house & lot.
