INTRODUCTION
• Badminton is a racquet sport
played using racquets to hit a
shuttlecock across a net. Although
it may be played with larger
teams, the most common forms of
the game are "singles" and
"doubles".

DISCUSSION:
• Badminton originated from the ancient civilizations of Europe and Asia
Badminton is an Ancient Game known as Battledore (bat or paddle) and
Shuttlecock probably originated more than 2000 years ago.
• In the 1600s Battledore and Shuttlecock was an upper class pastime in
England and many European countries. Battledore and Shuttlecock was
simply played by two people hitting a shuttlecock backwards and
forwards with a simple bat as many times as they could without allowing
it to hit the ground.
CONTINUATION:
• Modern Badminton started in Gloucestershire of England by 1873 since
Duke of Beaufort introduced this sport to his friends. By 1875, the first
badminton club was started in Folkestone, England.
• In March 1898, the first Open Tournament was held at Guildford. Then,
the first “All England” Championships were held the following year.
Denmark, USA and Canada became ardent followers of the game during
the 1930s
CONTINUATION:
• IBF - It was founded in 1934 as the International Badminton Federation
(IBF) with nine member nations (Canada, Denmark, England, France,
Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales).
• Badminton first appeared in the Olympic Games as a demonstration sport
in 1972 and as an exhibition sport in 1988. At the 1992 Games it became a
full-medal Olympic sport, with competition for men's and women's
singles (one against one) and doubles (two against two).
