    THE PASSIVE VOICE

    Juan conduce el coche.


    El coche es conducido por Juan.

    Juan drives the car.


    The car is driven by Juan.
    THE PASSIVE: Present, Past & Future
    PRESENT am / is / are
    + past
    PAST was / were
    participle of
    FUTURE will be main verb

    ❖ Juan drives the car → The car is driven by Juan.


    ❖ Juan drove the car → The car was driven by Juan.
    ❖ Juan will drive the car → The car will be driven by Juan.
    The Passive : Affirmative, Negative & Interrogative

    Affirmative The car is driven by Juan.


    Negative The car isn’t driven by Juan.
    Interrogative Is the car driven by Juan?
    USES

    1. To highlight the ACTION and not the subject.


    a. The picture was taken in Italy (by Clara).
    2. When the subject is obvious, unknown or we don’t want to
    name it.
    a. New museums are opened every year (by the government).
    b. The fire was put out yesterday (by the firefighters).
