Project Title

 The Development of a Voice-Controlled

Wheelchair System Using Arduino
Introduction

 Developing a Voice-Controlled Wheelchair using Arduino Technology. This

presentation will showcase how we can improve the lives of people with
disabilities by introducing an innovative solution that can help them move around
with ease and independence.
 A voice operated wheel chair is developed which will operate automatically on the
commands from the handicapped user for movement purpose.
 The problem is that in some cases the disability results in the loss of ability to use
hands.

Motivation

 The motivation behind voice controlled wheelchair using android technology project
is to build an automated wheelchair that helps the physically disabled peoples to
locomote from one place to another and a handicap person feel independence.

Objective

 The goal of a Voice Controlled Robotic Vehicle is to complete a task by

listening to the user\’s commands. For the user to operate the robot
smoothly, a prior preparation session is required. A code is used to give
instructions to the controller in the same way.

 Mainly targeted custmoers is handicap persons.

Functionalities of Voice Controlled Wheelchair
 Voice-controlled movement :- The wheelchair can be controlled using voice
commands, allowing for hands-free operation and greater independence for the
user.

 Multiple driving modes :- The wheelchair can switch between different driving
modes, such as manual and voice control, to accommodate different user
preferences and needs.

 Customizable settings :- The system's settings are highly customizable, allowing

you to adjust things like driving speed, voice recognition sensitivity, and more.

 Safety features :- The system incorporates safety mechanisms to ensure the user's
well-being, such as obstacle detection and emergency stop functions.

Related Project Survey

 Researchers at Indian Institute of Technology Madras

(IIT Madras) have developed a motorized wheelchair
vehicle that can be used not only on roads but even
on uneven terrains. Called ‘NeoBolt’, it has a
maximum speed of 25 kmph and travels up to 25 km
per charge. This project was completed 28 August
2021

Limitations

 Can’t up stairs

 Weight limit max 90KG

 Can’t drive speed

 Battery Life

 Safety Concerns
Literature survey
 Voice based Wheel Chair for Physically Challenged[1] proposed a system which
aids an assistance for physically handicapped ones those who are not able to move
by themselves. It uses speech recognition by interfacing speech recognition
kit(HM2007) with microcontroller and wheelchair. The system provides a Mic for
the user to give commands HM2007 registers the commands and fed them to
microcontroller. Motor driver drives the wheel chair accordingto the commands
from microcontroller.

 Design and Construction Of Electric Drive –A smart system for disabled person
with therapy facilities [5] proposed a wheel chair system with therapy unit for
disabled persons. This paper focused on to design a single wheel chair with many
facilities. The system consists of a therapy unit for limbs. It is done by using a
vibrator. The system uses ATmega 328/P microcontroller and it speed can be
controlled. The unit also consists of an ultrasonic sensor for obstacledetection.
Advantages of Voice Controlled Wheelchair

 Increased independence for users :- Voice control eliminates the need for
manual operation, empowering individuals with limited mobility to navigate
freely.

 Ease of use :- Using voice commands is intuitive and user-friendly, making it

accessible for individuals of varying technical abilities.

 Flexibility for customization:- The modular nature of Arduino allows for

customization and adaptation to individual user preferences and needs.[4]
Conclusion

 Voice Controlled Wheelchairs utilizing Arduino technology provide a transformative

solution for individuals with limited mobility. This technology empowers users,
enhances their independence, and paves the way for exciting future possibilities in
the field of assistive technology.
Future Scope
 The system can be adapted to make it for the external environment by adapting the
GPS location and the user can make the selection to go through it.

 The other way is that the path will be stored as the video and the wheelchair can
travel automatically by recognizing various past patterns.

 The automatic voice control robot utilizes a simple voice app that recognizes
voice commands. We need to eliminate noise and detect only the required speech
signals.

 Once our main motto of voice control is achieved we are working on the feature of
obstacle detection.

 We would like to focus on stair case climbing possibilities.
