Mouth Cover
• The hands cover the mouth as brain subconsciously
instructs it to try to suppress deceitful words that are
being told
• Some people disguise the mouth cover gesture by
coughing
• If someone covers their mouth while you are speaking
shows that they might think you are hiding something
Nose Touch / Itchy Nose
• Nose touch can be several quick rubs below the nose
• Woman perform this gesture with smaller strokes
• Scientist found that when you lie, chemicals known as catecholamines
are released, causing tissue inside the nose to swell
Ear Grab
• Imagine you tell someone “It only cost RM100 for this” and he grabs their ears , look away to the
side and says “It sounds like a good deal to me”
• This is symbolic attempt by the listener to “hear no evil”, trying to block the word he is hearing by
putting the hand around the ear

Neck Scratch
• Index finger usually of the writing hand scratches the side of the neck
• This gesture is a signal of doubt or uncertainty
• It’s a characteristic of the person who says “I’m not sure if I agree”
Eyes Movement

• We can tell if someone is remembering or making something up through eyes movement


• For right-handed individual, we look up to the left to remember details
• Look to the right to make something up
• Blink more rapidly
• Rubbing the eyes
• overbearing amount of contact when they lie, because they think that you, you think that if they
break eye contact
