What is Rapid Connect? (Cont’d)
Rapid Connect is a “pre-provisioned” MPLS connection and HP ITO-agile internal process improvement,
driving HP Helion Managed Cloud and traditional Managed Services offerings through joint Go-to-Market
with our carriers. This will allow the carrier’s customers to connect to HP Data Centers via VLANS to our
portfolio of cloud services and existing managed services, in a matter of days instead of months.
• Rapid Connect Solutions are different in that the Carriers use a multi-tenant Network to Network Interconnect (NNI)
to connect their Provider Edge (PE) equipment directly to HP's WAN Connectivity Layer (WCL). Some Carriers are
installing their PEs inside HP's data center walls and using a local 10Gigabit Ethernet for the NNI. Other Carriers
place their PE in their POPs and are installing multi-tenant Metro Ethernets to create the NNI. In either case the
outcome is the same for our clients ability to connect into the HP Data Center.
• Helion Connect Solutions is Option 1 for client to HP data center connectivity options. Option 1 is a Carrier
Leveraged MPLS service. Carriers install Leveraged MPLS Router with Ethernet Private Line (EPL) in HP Datacenter
Communication Rooms terminated to HP Leveraged WCL, HSP WAN Aggregation Switch or DC Core Routers.
Option 1 has limited availability typically at HP's strategic Data Center sites.

High-level Snap-shot:
HP Rapid Connect earlier known as Helion Connect offers rapid enablement of end-to-end Cloud and
Hosted services via redundant Carrier MPLS transport.
- HP ES is working with most major Global Carriers to have them pre-provision 10 G MPLS redundant pairs
into our 20+ strategic Data Centers that Hybrid cloud is present and are targets for Public Cloud (this is still not
finalized for public cloud)
- This will dramatically reduce the 100-120 days of provisioning time that traditional lease line circuits require,
- We are cross connecting the carrier PE routers in our comms rooms to our internal WAN Connectivity Layer (WCL)
that has or is the process of being upgraded. (See HP DCNA Architecture 2.3 for details on the WCL) All the VPC, Cloud and
Managed Services with the DC will be connected to the WCL within the DC. We anticipate this will reduced service activation time
to specific partner Carriers to less than 5 days in the first release. In release 2 with API /CSA Orchestration it will be less than 24s
hour and release 3 will be within minutes via OpenStack .
- We will use VLan on the Carrier MPLS to connect the customer securely over MPLS to our Services. This is a sell
with approach between HP and the associated Carrier.
The Carriers we are working with and whom are deploying to our DC at their cost are the following: ATT
(NetBond), VZ (Secure Cloud Interconnect, SCI) BT (Cloud Connect), Vodafone (Cloud Carousel), Orange
(Galerie) Level 3 (Cloud Connect) and CenturyLink. We are just in the early stages with Telstra and other APAC
Carriers.
The customer would pay the Carrier for bandwidth consumed and HP for services consumed in the DC. This will
work

Existing capability
Develop and deploy MPLS circuits into strategic ESNI Data Centers targeting strategic Tier 1 & 2 Regional Carriers, allowing
rapid enablement of Cloud based services to HP customers with multiple locations
Extend Carrier PoP throughout the all GSN Data Centers via ESNI Hoteling / Landing Point
Start with the US and then rapidly expand to EMEA
Target 4 ENSI Locations: Chicago, Dallas, London and Frankfurt
See August 2014 NOD
Benefits:
• Fast and flexible for Carriers who want to start smaller, build ramp-up Business Case.
• This would also apply to customers who are Carrier agnostic.
• Federated HP Data Centers via MPLS interconnection
• Quick deployment to European Carriers and acts as a NNI Broker
• Highly secure environment
Disadvantage:
• There is a cost to the ITO organization for inter-DC connectivity, since circuits have been scaled back
• Possible latency /timing issues

Helion Connect Solutions - Option 1
Helion Connect Solutions is Option 1 for client to HP data center connectivity options. Option 1 is a Carrier Leveraged MPLS service. Carriers install
Leveraged MPLS Router with Ethernet Private Line (EPL) in HP Datacenter Communication Rooms terminated to HP Leveraged WCL, HSP WAN
Aggregation Switch or DC Core Routers. Option 1 has limited availablity typically at HP's strategic Data Center sites.
HP Managed Leveraged WAN CPE + WAN Connectivity Layer (WCL) - Option 2
Order Direct unbundled Ethernet Private Line (EPL) circuit from carrier to terminate on HP managed hardware like WCL, HSP or Helion VPC. These Direct
Unbundled EPL Circuit use a local access circuit to connect from Carrier MPLS POP to HP Leveraged WCL, HP Leveraged Aggregation Switch or DC Core
Routers.
HP Managed Dedicated WAN CPE - Option 3
Order direct unbundled EPL circuit from carrier to terminate on HP managed hardware like Managed WAN Service client dedicated routers. Option #3 uses a
Direct Circuit Into Data Center with Dedicated HP Managed Client WAN CPE device. Unlike Option 2 which EPL terminates on leveraged CPE.
Client/3rd Party Managed Dedicated WAN CPE in VAR - Option 4
Option #4 is a Direct Circuit into Data Center with 3rd Party Managed Client WAN devise in the Vendor Access Room (VAR). Order a bundled (not
unbundled) circuit with MPLS and carrier managed hardware with the carrier managed circuit and Customer Edge (CE) router to be installed in HP's VAR.
Client/3rd Party Managed CPE at Colocation Site - Option 5
Metro Ethernet Service (MES) or 10G Network With 3rd Party Managed Client WAN Device At An Offsite Colocation Site (For details see Co-Lo Available
Site Tab in Global Data Center Access file). Some HP datacenters do not allow for non-HP managed equipment inside the datacenter. For these sites HP
requires clients to purchase colocation space from a carrier hotel facility and back-haul circuits into the HP datacenter.
Client/3rd Party Managed Dedicated WAN CPE in Communication Room- Option 6
A Communication Room is similar to a Vendor Access Room except there is no physical security separating the 3rd party access from HP. For Option 6 order
a Direct circuit into the HP Datacenter with 3rd party managed client WAN device in the Comm Room (CM).
Client/3rd Party Managed Dedicated WAN CPE in Data Hall - Option 7
A Data Hall is a large room inside the Data Center where all equipment is located in rows of racks or cabinets. A Data Hall is sometimes also called a Module.
A "cell" is a sub-section of the Hall or Module. Some HP Datacenters are not built with Comm Rooms or VARs and these sites allow escorted clients/3rd party

Market Data : Direct Connections
Strategic Planning Assumption: By the end of 2016, direct connections from all major global and regional CSPs will allow enterprises to bypass
the Internet and enjoy superior performance, up from 20% at the end of 2014.
Analysis by: To Chee Eng, Gartner Dec 2014
Market Implications:
The lack of consistently good performance over the Internet is a major inhibitor for widespread cloud adoption . The problem is compounded by
additional latency while accessing services hosted in faraway, offshore locations.
This implementation is new, and is led by a small number of large CSPs and cloud providers. It is typical for large players to cooperate with each
other at the early stage of a new market development. As the market gains maturity, the large CSPs and cloud providers will extend the
cooperation to more providers.
Within the next two years, Gartner expects all major global and regional CSPs to establish direct MPLS connectivity to the major cloud IaaS and
SaaS providers, enriching the network infrastructure for accessing public cloud services.
There is a less than 20% probability that the large CSPs and cloud players will limit the cooperation among themselves, shutting out smaller
players. However, there are too many players in the marketplace, and competition will drive the more aggressive players to widen their
partnerships and force others to follow suit.
This will democratize the marketplace, creating more options for enterprises. This will spur adoption of cloud, which will in turn encourage
providers to connect with each other, creating a virtuous cycle of growth.
Recommendations:
Enterprises with public cloud requirements should now include direct connectivity to their preferred cloud providers as part of their evaluation
criteria when selecting a CSP.
