How To Install and Configure

Active Directory – Domain


Controller
What is Active Directory – Domain Controller?

Active Directory - is a framework that manages several


Windows server domains.

Domain controller - is a server on Active Directory to


authenticate users based on centrally stored data.
STEPS ON CONFIGURING OUR SERVER’S ACTIVE DIRECTORY –
DOMAIN CONTROLLER

 Make sure you already install Windows Server’s


2012 R2, on your computer that you will use as
server.

 Prepare the other computer that will act as client


on your server.
Configuration of the Local Server
On your server’s computer we
will configure the settings we
will need.

Click the “CONFIGURE THIS


LOCAL SERVER”
This is the Local Server.

Let’s Change its Computer


name.

To change it you need to


click the highlighted word
next to the “Computer
Name”
After clicking it, another
will appear.

Click the “Change” button


Another window will
appear.

Now you will input the


name you preferred for
your server.

No need to change the


Workgroup name.
After putting your
preferred name for your
server, Click “OK”
You need to restart your
server in order for the
changes to apply.

Click “OK”
Click “Close”
Click “Restart Now”

Then wait for your server


to restart.
After restarting go back to
the “Local Server” and
check if the changes has
been applied.
If the changes is done, we
need to enable the Remote
Desktop.

Click the “Disabled”


beside the Remote
Desktop
Click “Allow remote
connections to this
computer”
Click “Apply”
If it stills shows
“Disabled” you can refresh
the local server by clicking
the refresh button.
Click the Refresh button
When the Remote Desktop
is Enabled, we now need
to configure our Ethernet.
Click the highlighted &
Underlined word beside
the Ethernet.
Configuration of Ethernet of a Server
New window will appear.

We will change the IP


Address of our server to
Static IP Address.

First we need to know its


current IP, simply double
click the Ethernet. Then
Click Details
After knowing its IP
Address, we need to
configure it to make it
Static IP Address.

Click the Properties, then


double click Internet
Protocol Version
(TCP/IPv4)

SECOND

following IP address:”
then fill up the

IP Address,
Subnet Mask, and
Default Gateway
When done, click “OK”
Hit Refresh
Next, we will now add
roles and features, to do
that click manage.
Adding Roles and Features
Click “Add Roles and
Features”
New window will appear.

In here click “Next” no


need to edit anything just
go by default
In here, click “Next” no

In here, choose “Select a
server from the server
pool” then click “Next”
In here, click or mark the
“Active Directory
Domain Service” and new
window will appear.
No need to change
anything here, just
proceed.

Click “Add Features”


When done, you can see
that there will be a mark
or check on the box of
“Active Directory
Domain Services”

Then Click “Next”


Go by default settings and
Click “Next”
Click “Next”
Click “Restart the
destination server
automatically if
required” this will make
your computer server
restart automatically
when needed.
Click “Yes”
Then click “Install” wait
for the installation to
finish
“Kumain kana?”

Sige close mo na.
After the installation click
the notifications or the flag
icon.
Now we need to Promote
this server to a domain
controller.

Click the highlighted and


underlined sentence.
Promoting the Server to Domain Controller
Here, Click the “Add a
new forest”
Then input your preferred
root domain name,
examples of it are

Youtube.com
Facebook.com
Wagkanamagalit.com
SorrynaUWU.com

(.net) (.ph) (.org) are


examples of it
Click next when done
putting your root domain
name
Put your password.

yung hindi
makakalimutan, yung
hindi katulad niya.
When done, Click “Next”
Click “Next”

Wait for the verification
to finish
When verification is done,
and if it passed, click
“Install”
Wait for the installation
to finish
The computer will
prompt that it will be
restarted because of the
changes.
Tulad ng pag hintay mo

When done waiting,
move on.

When done waiting type


your password and log
in.
When done, you can see
that the Domain was
change from
WORKGROUP to the
domain I input.

Next we need to change


the settings of DNS
server in ethernet.

Click the IP address on


the Ethernet.
Setting up the DNS server
Right Click the Ethernet
then Click properties.
Click Internet Protocol
Version 4 (TCP/IPv4),
then properties
Change Preferred DNS
server the same as your IP
address.
When done, Click “OK”
Click the Ethernet then
Click “Disable this
network device”
Click “Enable this network
device”

now your domain.
How to Create an Administrator
Account and User Account in Active
Directory
Next we will create User
and Admin. To do that
click the Tools
Then Click Active
Directory Users and
Computers.
New window will pop
up then click your
domain and all
folders that exist
inside your domain
will show up
We need to create
new folder for our
client.
To create new folder,
Right click your domain
then click New and click
Organizational Unit.
Input your preferred name
for your clients.
Click “OK” when done
After creating new folder,
let’s create user account
and admin account
To create an Administrator
Account,
Click User then Right click
the Administrator
Select Copy
New window will pop up

Then input your preferred


First and Last Name,

The “User logon name” will


represent as the username
when logging in.

Then Click “Next” when


done
Input your preferred
password.

Mark the “User cannot


change password” and
“Password never expires”

then hit “Next” when done


Select Finish
When done , the account
you created will be inside
the folder “Users” to
move it to the folder you
created, right click on it.
Select Move
Select the folder you
wanted the account to be
insert in, then click “OK”
Now to create a User
Account, simply right
click inside your folder.
Right click inside, then
Click “New” and click
“User”
Fill all the spaces needed
then click “Next” when
done.
Input your preferred
password then hit “Next”
Click “Finish”
This are the account
that we created.

If ever we forgot
who is the
Administrator
account and the User
Account we can
check in on their
properties.
Right click on the
user you created,
click properties
When on properties,
Click the “Member
Of”
This will show you all the
access that the account
can do.

Lets Do Check the other


account.
The same as we did on
the Administrator
Account, Right Click on
the Account and Click
Properties, then click
“Member Of”
The this one is probably
the User Account.
Configuration of Client’s Computer to
Server’s Domain
First, we need to make
the client’s IP address to
Static IP Address.

Click the Change adapter


Options
Double Click the
Ethernet, so we can check
its IP Address.
Click Details
After knowing the IP
address of the Client’s
Computer, Go to its
properties.
Click “Internet Protocol
Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)”
Then properties
Here, we need to input
the client’s IP address
manually.

Then on the DNS server,


we need to input the
Server’s IP Address.

Then hit “OK” when


finish.
Go to File Explorer, Then
right click the “This PC”
and choose “Properties”
Click the “Change
Settings”
Click “Change”
Input the Domain of your
server
Then hit “OK” when
done.
Now you can login the
Administrator Account or
User Account you created
on your Server.
