Scarlatti in Halle Saale, Duchy of
Magdeburg then part of Brandenburg-
Prussia. His parents were Georg Handel,
aged 63, and Dorothea Taust.His father

Handel's most well known oratorio, The


Messiah, was written in a twenty-four
day period in 1741. Portions of The
Messiah are reflected in the familiar
Christmas tune, "Joy to the World! The
Lord is Come."

•George Frideric Handel was born on February


23, 1685 in Halle, Brandenburg [Germany] . He
was a German-born English composer of the late
Baroque era, noted particularly for his operas,
oratorios, and instrumental
compositions . Handel died on April 14, 1759 in
London, England at the age of 74.
HIS CONTRIBUTONS

•Handel wrote approximately forty-six


operas, thirty-two oratorios, and he was a
prolific composer in many other genres as
well. He is well known for his outstanding
contributions to church music, secular
vocal music, and instrumental music of
various types.
