analysis, in-depth news/investigative news and survey news.

A “how-to” feature article focuses on the process of


how things came about. This might be a product,
services or activity.

TREND FEATURE
Trend stories take the pulse of the culture at the
moment, looking at what's new, fresh and exciting. The
emphasis in trend stories is usually on light, quick, easy-
to-read pieces that capture the spirit of whatever new
trend is being discussed.

LIVE-INS
The live-in is an in-depth, often magazine-length article
that paints a picture of a particular place and the people
who work or live there. Live-ins have been done on
homeless shelters, emergency rooms, battlefield
encampments, cancer hospices, public schools and police
precincts, among other locales. The idea is to give readers a
look at a place they probably wouldn't normally encounter.

EDITORIAL SECTION
The editorial section should
have at least two (2) pages
and should include the
following: main editorial,
editorial cartoon, columns,
letters to the editor and
commentaries. Opinion
polls or surveys may be
included, but are not
required.
EDITORIAL SECTION
The treatment of the issues must demonstrate fair
and balanced presentation of both sides of each
issue tackled, clear moral purpose, logical
reasoning, and proper citations/attributions of
sources.

Topics found in the section should tackle various


international, national or local issues that may
directly or indirectly affect the school or the
community the school serves.

Think at least 2 possible topics in news,
editorial/column, features and science you plan to include
in the next issue of your school paper. Remember that it
should be localized and has a direct impact to your
students, teachers and the community.
