10 Core Rules of Netiquette by Virginia Shea
Group 2
Simply stated, it's network
etiquette -- that is, the etiquette
of cyberspace. And "etiquette"
means "the forms required by
good breeding or prescribed by
authority to be required in
social or official life." In other
words, Netiquette is a set of
rules for behaving properly
online.

What is Netiquette?
Rule 1: Remember
the Human
Always remember that
there's a real person
behind every screen. Treat
others with the same
respect and courtesy you
would in person.
Rule 2: Adhere to the
same standards of
behavior online that you
follow in real life
Online interactions should
reflect the same standards of
behavior as face-to-face
interactions. Avoid negative
language and aggressive
behavior.
Rule 3: Know Where
You Are in Cyberspace

Understand the context of

the online community
you're in. Each platform
has its own rules and
expectations.
Rule 4: Respect Other People's
Time and Bandwidth

Be mindful of others' time

and resources. Avoid
spamming and be
considerate of bandwidth
when sharing content.
Rule 5: Make
yourself look
good online

Present yourself in a
positive light online. Your
digital footprint reflects
your personal brand.
Rule 6: Share
Expert Knowledge
Contribute valuable
insights and
expertise. Share
credible sources and
accurate information.
Rule 7: Help keep
flame wars under
control

Avoid escalating conflicts.

Engage in constructive
dialogue and resolve
disagreements respectfully.
Rule 8: Respect other
people's privacy
Respect privacy settings
and confidential
information. Obtain
consent before sharing
others' personal details.
Rule 9: Don't Abuse
Your Power

Use your influence and

authority responsibly.
Avoid exploiting others or
engaging in online
harassment.
Rule 10: Be forgiving of
other people's mistakes

Practice tolerance and

forgiveness. Everyone makes
errors, so approach
misunderstandings with
patience and understanding.
